EN: I am impressed by the silver color… For me it is the color that tranquilizes, that calms down our inner restlessness and impatience, the color that brings a deep wisdom, but wisdom that is intended for a man and that is not as sterile and inaccessible as wisdom of white. Silver has the power of preserving the passion in its calmness. I love how it goes with black which emphasizes its luster. I made a subtle folds to highlight the character of the fabric –  its ability to gather in its shimmer a whole spectrum of shades: from dark, through gray, to the glittering white… This skirt is like a liquid mirror, like moonlight in the solid state… Celebrating intellectual power of introspection, that is symbolized by the mirror, but at the same time saving our instincts, indicated by the moon, and summarizing the white and black in the light, this color represents a reconciliation of extremes, the wisdom of the life, the harmony itself.

SR: Očarava me srebrna boja…

EN: I sewed this dress for my sister for her birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise, but it was just partly because she accidentally came across the dress a few days before the birthday… But, nevertheless, I was very excited while I was sewing it, as  I am always when I am preparing a surprise for someone. My biggest fear – that measures wouldn’t be good – proved to be unnecessary. Dress fits her perfectly, and she was so thrilled!

EN: I love this animal printed fabric so much that it stood for a year untouched because I could not decide what to make of it and not feel sorry that I have used it. In the meantime, I cut just one small part of it for the clutch that you can see in this post. I’d like meters and meters of this fabric, thank you! Anyway, this happens to me often: some fabric inspires me so much that I can imagine a whole collection made of it and then it is hard to make up my mind what to sew actually. And you end up with that paradoxical feeling of happiness that you’ve created something and slight dissatisfaction that the process is finished. By the way, I also made this beige top. Hope you’ll enjoy your day!

Volela bih metre i metre ovog platna! Inače, i ovu bež majicu sam ja sašila. Nadam se da uživate u danu!

graffiti and skirt refashion

EN: Usually I don’t do refashioning because I don’t find it even near as interesting as the whole process of making a garment from searching for an adequate pattern and style to sewing itself. In refashioning I always feel inhibited because, to some extent, the limits are already defined. However, sometimes I get inspiration for that, especially if  I can achieve something totally new with little work. I got this skirt as a present, and it originally didn’t have suspenders and was long  just below the knees. I don’t have to mention that it fit me awful. This was one of the easiest refashioning because it was nice at the hips (I doubt that I would do this if it didn’t). I just cut the length and made suspenders of it and that’s all! From my-auntie-style skirt I got this comfortable, warm skirt that is totally my thing, here wearing with the same color shirt and my boyfriend’s sweater. As much as I don’t like refashioning I love and admire when someone else does it in a creative and inspiring way. One type of refashioning and renewing our environment is a street art, in which I enjoy so much because it can bring colors and vibrancy to any gray city. Here are some photos of graffiti that I have encountered in the narrow streets of Athens. Check more on myInstagram! How do you feel about street art?

EN: These photos were taken in Athens which I visited in December. It was the third time that I was in that city, and every time I have percieved it differently, but I would always feel a kind of pious admiration standing in front of the remains of the culture and civilization that existed there centuries ago. Pillars in these photos are not from the ancient times, but symbolically they represent the holding pillars of our artistic and spiritual development. Sometimes I wonder how anyone after the ancient Greeks had the courage to create anything. And at the same time I know that nothing that is created in Europe after them would be the same if there were not those pillars, which are set so firmly and securely in their everlasting beauty and universal truth that no time can destroy.

This fabric reminded me from the beginning of the surface of the marble and I knew that in Greece I will find an adequate setting for the photos. Although this kind of pattern is not something that fits me the best, I wanted to sew a wide dress with raised waist. In the end I managed to draft the pattern myself. I am happy that I made this comfortable dress, but even more that I came across these lighted pillars at the foothill of the Acropolis. They are not illuminated by the sun, but the Acropolis and entire area around it illuminates the light of the centuries old artistic and spiritual power of the ancient Greeks.DSCF2625-001

EN: First of all, happy holidays!!! Hope that New Year will bring you peace, creativity, beauty and joy! I have made a break with the blog because of my travel to Athens. The next photos will be from that big, confusing and inspiring city, but till then let me present you this sleeveless dress I made last year that I wear in summer but in winter as well, with additional layers. Enjoy your holidays!

SR: Najpre srećni praznici!!! Neka vam Nova godina donese mir, kreativnost, lepotu i radost!
